Silent Disco Citywalk® Storyo

Or how we celebrated Diversity and Equality

August 17, 2022 / developer / 0 comments

Working with diverse communities is our signature style. We know how to make events accessible to various groups and make sure everyone is having a good time: be it the ultimate Silent Disco 80s party for Auckland University students, a Silent Disco Party for the Pasifika Autism Support Group or simply celebrating inspiring women of Tāmaki Makaurau with the Storyo collective.

We had a blast making it all happen and invite you to travel back in time with Papaya Stories and appreciate those moments of joy, love, and connection.

Silent Disco Citywalk® Storyo Edition became a truly special September collaboration  that highlighted the diversity, equity, and inclusion of women. Yana from Papaya Stories, Elina from Storyo, and Ado from Ellen Melville Centre –  the inspiring trio – teamed up to share this event with the community and connect with the women of the past, present, and future.

Papaya Stories and Storyo came together on a common platform to make a difference through the transformative power of storytelling. In her work, Elina from Storyo shares the honest side of the journey of ordinary femmes of all backgrounds and celebrates gender diversity. As human beings, we are perfectly imperfect, and that’s actually cool!

To celebrate women’s unique place in history we came along to a welcoming safe space at the heart of the City, in the community centre named after Ellen Melville, a politician, women’s advocate, lawyer, and pioneer.

The story that brought us together was narrated by a Woman of the past, present, and future who spoke to our hearts with the unified voice of millions of femmes from all walks of life who ever lived, live, and would live.

Tuning into a women-driven playlist (Who Run the World – Girls by Beyonce, Alicia Keys “Girl on Fire”, Lizzo and Ladi6 to name a few), we were cruising along Auckland Central walking down that iconic Sex and the City catwalk and making our way through Commercial Bay, Queen Street, and Britomart.

We travelled back in time, connected with the natural elements -fire, water, air, earth around us through movement, stories about historic female leaders and badass women from Storyo collective who helped us to discover what it means to be a woman.

“Thank you again for the most amazing experiences you’ve given our family. They are wonderful moments of inner reflection, a time to escape the day-to-day, but also a lovely connecting activity for me and my child. It’s very special” – Sarah and Miles

Silent Disco Citywalk® Storyo Edition encouraged us to live out our calling and celebrate women in daily life. How can we do so? Here’s the plan!

We are a female-driven company bringing joy to people and also empowering women to live to the fullest. So if you haven’t been to our events before, make sure you stay up to date with our events and sign  up to our e-newsletter.

To rediscover yourself as a woman on a deeper level, we invite you to a self-guided Women in the City walk that comes to life as a part of the Urban Walking Festival this November.

And finally, the best way to celebrate women is by providing more opportunities for women to work, create and play. And one of the ways to do it is to work with us – email us today.
