“You’ve gotta dance like there’s nobody watching,

Love like you’ll never be hurt,

Sing like there’s nobody listening,

And live like it’s heaven on earth.” – William W. Purkey

Discover extraordinary in an ordinary day, unleash your creative potential and share the joy. This philosophy came back to life thanks to the Papaya Stories team. To all biggest surprise 30 awesome Disco humans hit the dance floor Dance-O-Mat on Saturday, 22 April at Aotea Square in Auckland as a celebration of joy and the start of NZ Dance Week 2017 (#nzdanceweek2017) organised by DANZ.

“We managed to put that Disco flashmob together during 3 weeks. It felt like mission impossible, but we all proved that everything is possible thanks to the beautiful energy, positive intentions and commitment of our participants!” – Yana Papaya, a Founder of Papaya Stories and Flash mob events organiser, recalls passionately.

Dancers of all levels from 15-70 years old, from various cultures including New Zealand & Australia, Latin America & Russia, came together to share the joy of the dance being dressed-up in funky costumes and jamming to some classic Disco songs by Michael Jackson, Bee Gees as well as new Disco hit by Musya Totibadze. Special thanks to our sexy mama Bess Kilpatrick Mason who put the choreography piece together and dances with us on that day while being 5-months pregnant. What a legend!

The random appearance of the dancers wasn’t the only highlight at the Disco Flashmob. We had a singing group The Ranis (Queens) organised by Ayisha Jaffer during the week who took us back to 60s while performing a song by The Ronettes “Be My Baby”.
